I'm wondering what Peter meant by 1 Peter 4:12-13
"Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed".

Isn't that the section of scripture where Peter talks about how believers can expect persecution?
Mark had a sermon on that not too long ago. Have to check but I think I have some pretty good notes on it if you're interested. I could email you.
